Glossop North End’s exertions on the pitch were awarded with the club of the month award on Tuesday.

A picturesque Surrey Street.

January was a fantastic period for the Hillmen which saw them pick up three points at Congleton Town following a 3-1 victory.

The Surrey Street faithful have seen their side cruise to numerous victories over the course of the season, with one of their standout performances coming against Stockport Sports on Boxing Day.

The 6-0 triumph is just one of many memorable victories, with other notable performances coming against Bootle, Colne and Winsford United, in which the North West Counties League outfit ran out 8-0, 5-0 and 6-0 winners respectively.

The clubs most recent cup exploits came against Worksop Town on Saturday 24th January, where a Jason Carey extra-time strike secured Glossop’s place in the fifth Round of the FA Vase.

The competition is often overshadowed by the exuberance of the FA Cup, but for Glossop, their fans, and the town in general, the Vase certainly holds some bitter-sweet memories.

Six years ago, under the guidance of Steve Young and Terry Hinck’s, the club made shockwaves on non-league soil.

The Derbyshire outfit were involved in every single round of the competition during the 2008-2009 campaign, and a semi-final encounter against Chalfont St Peter had the town ecstatic.

A nervy round of penalties came between Glossop and a finale at Wembley, but Rick Bailey held his nerve and slotted home a penultimate penalty, sending the 1,300 blue souls into raptures.

The prospect of a Wembley return looms large for the Glossop faithful, but if they are to edge closer to that dream, then they will have to overcome a fifth round tie against Dunston UTS this Saturday.

In order to succeed in their endeavours, the club will rely on the services of Jason Carey, who has scored 23 goals this season with three of those coming in the last two games.

The town is currently experiencing sub-zero temperatures, but with the club still involved in two cup competitions and the chase for promotion very much on, it seems things are warming up and the pressure is on.
