There were plenty of young successes in Glossop and District Poultry Club’s annual show.
Matthew Kershaw from Charlesworth, a season exhibitor despite being only 10 years old, was a first prize winner with his huge Buff Orpington.
Dinting’s Grace Gregory, four years his junior, was another high-flying achiever, her Oxford English game bird claiming another first prize.
Club chairman Phil Pennington was delighted with the quality of the birds that filled the main hall of Central Methodist Church.
The competitors came from a wide area but he was disappointed with the numbers.
“We are around 100 birds down,” said Phil, who blamed moult which meant many birds were not in show condition so their owners didn’t bother to bring them down.
Phil was pleased with the number of spectators who nipped into the cage-filled hall to look at the huge variety of birds.
Many were visiting a poultry show for the first time and liked what they saw.
