Simmondley Primary School pupils were treated to an inspirational visit in their Assembly last week.
Steve Watts (seen on the right of the photograph) came to talk to the children about his marathon challenge “Heartbeat for Everest”.
Mrs D Greaves, head teacher, said: “I don’t think I have ever seen an audience so enthralled and engaged.
“We were truly inspired to hear Steve telling and showing us, his experience at Base Camp Mount Everest when the avalanche struck in April 2014.
“If anyone was the perfect example of the strength of ‘Determination’ then Steve is it!”
Simmondley Primary School has decided to choose “Heartbeat for Everest” as its charity this year as The British Heart Foundation effects so many and is really interested in developing its global links with the Himalayan Education Trust.
A leaflet was sent to parents giving details of this very worthy cause and telling them they could find out more on the website www.heartbeatforeverest.com.
