Glossopdale’s food bank is extending its services into Tintwistle as part of a desire to feed as many people as possible.

Bare Necessities has been given a set up grant by Derbyshire County Council and the organising committee can’t wait to get started.

Although Bare Necessities will establish the food bank, it’s expected that in time it will be organised and run by volunteers from Tintwistle.

High Peak food bank co-ordinator Paul Bohan said some residents had already offered to help.

He said: “Bare Necessities and its partner organisation, High Peak Nightstop and Foodbank, will offer continuous support to Tintwistle food bank.”

As well as donating food to people in need, Tintwistle’s bank will be supported by a monthly advice
service provided by the Citizens’ Advice Bureau.

Villagers are invited to celebrate the launch of both in the council
offices in Sexton Street from 10am to noon on August 19.

It’s a family coffee morning with entertainment, information about the food bank and the chance to donate food.

Bare Necessities committee member Mary Jessop said: “We hope Tintwistle residents will come along to find out how a food bank works and bring a couple of food items to get us off to a fantastic start in their village.

“It promises to be a great celebration of community support,” she added.

Bare Necessities workers will also distribute information packs about support organisations which Tintwistle residents can access.

These will go out in the weeks leading up to the launch.

Tintwistle people can get involved in the foodbank and help with the launch by emailing bn.foodbank@gmail.com or ringing 07811 684282.
